
Men's Golf Begins Fall Season with Third-Place Finish at Duke Tournament

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Mathias Schmid and John Murphy posted top-10 finishes to lead the University of Louisville men's golf team to a third-place finish at the Rod Myers Invitational on Sunday in Durham, N.C.
The Cardinals shot a 288-278-292=858 to finish 16 shots behind tournament champion Wake Forest. Host Duke was second after finishing just three shots off the lead.
Schmid finished eighth overall after shooting an even-par 72 on Sunday. The Germany native carded a 4-under-par 68-72-72=212 in his first tournament of the fall season. Murphy, who started the day in a tie for second place shot a 4-over-par 76 to finish at 3-over-par for the two-day event.
Devin Morley and Trevor Johnson gave the Cardinals four golfers in the top 35 by placing in a tie for 21st and 24th, respectively. Morley was 2-under-par heading into the final round, but shot a 3-over-par 75 on Sunday, while Johnson was the only player to shot under par with a 2-under-par 70.
Returning from a redshirt season, Keegan de Lange placed 43rd in his first tournament in over a year with a 9-over-par 79-71-75=225.
The Cardinals look to defend their tournament championship on Sept. 22-24 at the Old Town Club Invitational.
