Claycomb Ties for Medalist Honors; Cards Finish in Second

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Junior Cooper Claycomb shot a final round 70 to tie for medalist honors Tuesday at The Michael A. Marino Classic at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club.
Claycomb finished with a 10-under-par 206 to tie with Coastal Carolina's Max Bengtsson for the tournament championship. It was the first win since Sebastian Moss won the Calusa Cup during the 2024-25 season.
As a team, the Cardinals finished in second place just four shots behind ACC foe NC State, which won the event at 15-under-par. The Cardinals were in contention all week after shooting 282-283-288=853 for their highest finish this season.
Claycomb shared his first tournament title of his career by shooting 68-68-70=206 for the lowest score of his three-year career. Brady Smith tied for third place just one shot off the lead of his teammate with scores 71-66-70=207 for his first top-five finish.
Easton Johnson and Warren Thomis tied for 36th place with a 4-over-par 220. Johnson shot 71-73-76=220, while Thomis fired rounds of 72-76-72=220. Adam Buchanan tied for 67th place with his final score of 226.
The Cardinals return to action at the Calusa Cup in Naples, Fla., on April 5-7.
