Cards Lead the NCAA Athens Regional After First Round

Louisville sets program record for single-round NCAA Regional score with a 10-under-par 274.
ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Louisville men's golf team carded its best round in NCAA Regional history with a 10-under-par 274 in the first round of the NCAA Athens Regional, claiming the top spot on the leaderboard. This marks the lowest single-round and lowest score-to-par in a regional in Louisville history.
Warren Thomis paced the Cardinals with a career-best 66 (-5) to find himself in a tie for second place after the first 18 holes. His score is the lowest for an individual in a regional since 2019, when Matthias Schmid shot a 66 in the first round of the Louisville Regional.
Cooper Claycomb and Brady Smith were not far behind, carding a 68 (-4) and a 69 (-3), respectively. Andrew Tan held steady with an even-par 71 and Easton Johnson ended the day with a 77 (+6).
Louisville sits three shots ahead of the second-place teams, No. 1 Auburn and No. 13 Vanderbilt, heading into Tuesday. The Cards will tee off alongside those two teams for round two starting at 8:00 a.m. ET tomorrow off hole No. 1.
