Thibodeau won the NHWGA Amateur Championship by nine strokes with a 6-under-par 210
GREENLAND, N.H. - University of Louisville sophomore women's golfer Lauren Thibodeau handily defeated her competition at the New Hampshire Women's Golf Association (NHWGA) Amateur Championship, winning with a 54-hole score of 6-under-par 210.
The event was held at the par-72, 5,505-yard Breakfast Hill Golf Club. Thibodeau, a native of Hampstead, New Hampshire and competing in the State Amateur for the first time since she was 14, won her first NHWGA Amateur championship by nine strokes. She also won the NHWGA Junior Championship seven years in a row (2011-17), winning her first championship when she was 11.
"I am excited to have won the state amateur," Thibodeau said enthusiastically. "I always dreamed of winning this tournament one day and to be named the best in the state. I was hitting my wedges very well this week so I wasn't missing many greens and I was having many good chances at birdie. The course was very tight and challenging and required a conservative plan with lots of hybrids and woods off the tee. I feel like my game is in good shape and is ready for the fall college golf season."
Thibodeau led by three shots after finishing day one with a 3-under-par 69. She came back on day two with another 69 to extend her lead to eight strokes, before closing the tournament with an even-par 72. Thibodeau accounted for three of the four lowest rounds in the tournament. She finished with 12 birdies over three days, and had just one bogey during her second round.
