The rising senior won her U.S. Women's Amateur Sectional Qualifier at Walnut Grove Country Club
DAYTON, Ohio - For the third straight year, University of Louisville women's golfer Lauren Hartlage has qualified for the United States Golf Association's Women's Amateur Championship. The rising senior won her U.S. Women's Amateur Sectional Qualifier Thursday (July 11) at Walnut Grove Country Club, shooting a 3-under-par 69.
Hartlage finished her day with five birdies, four of which came on the back nine. She was tied atop the 75-player field with Haylin Harris.
"I am very excited to be able to qualify again for this years US Women's Amateur," Hartlage said after her round. "It is a huge honor to be able to play in this event as it is one of the best amateur events in the world. I played very well today and was able to put together a solid round thanks to my ball striking and putting. This has helped give me confidence for the rest of my tournaments this year and my senior season!"
Last season, Hartlage was one of three Cardinals to qualify for the U.S. Women's Amateur, before she advanced to match play after stroke play. Hartlage is one of six competitors to gain an invitation from the Walnut Grove sectional qualifier.
This year's U.S. Women's Amateur is scheduled for Aug. 5-11 at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Mississippi, with a field of 156 participants. The tournament will be televised by FoxSports.
On Monday, July 15, two more Louisville golfers will take the course. Delaney Shah and Lauren Thibodeau will compete at a Sectional Qualifier in Brockton, Massachusetts, with the hopes of joining Hartlage at the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship.
