
Cardinals Complete Competition at World University Games

Fears, Sos and Tarasevich all final in Napoli, Italy
University of Louisville swimmers and a diver have completed their competition at the World University Games in Napoli, Italy.

Over 8,000 participants (including coaches and officials) participated in total at the Games, which officially runs from July 3-14. Many of the student-athletes are looking to kick-start their athletic careers with a view to Tokyo 2020, but some are already Olympic and World Championship medallists in their own right. Twenty-two years after Italy last organised the event in Sicily in 1997, 5971 athletes from 112 countries will compete in 222 events across 18 sports.

Diver Molly Fears was the first to compete as the first Cardinal diver to represent Team USA in program history. She finished 11th in the finals of the platform.

Daniel Sos finished sixth in the finals of the 200 IM with a time of 2:00.72 and was 19th in the 400-IM with a time of 4:23.81 for his native Hungary.

Cardinal Forever Grigory Tarasevich won gold in the 100 Back with a time of 53.51. The Russian also took second in the final of the 200 backstroke with a 1:57.91. Â He collected more hardware with a silver in the 4x100 Medley Relay for his native Russia. He split a 53.94 in the backstroke leg as Russia went 3.33.72.
