EAST LANSING, Mich. - The University of Louisville women's golf team ended their season on a high note, as the Cardinals jumped three spots on the final day of the NCAA East Lansing Regional to finish in 11th place. The Cards recorded 17 birdies on the final day, the most by any team, en route to a team score of 293 and a three-day total of 902.
Â
Hosted by Michigan State at the Forest Akers West Golf Course, the par-72 course was played at 6,387 yards. Kent State captured the regional title by one shot over Arizona with a 54-hole score of 4-under-par 860. Patty Tavatanakit from UCLA earned the medalist honors with a three-round score of 8-under-par 208.
Â
"Today was a much better day, as we played very solid and were able to put together four good scores", head coach Courtney Trimble said. "We are disappointed not to advance as we dug ourselves too big of a hole but we walk away from the tournament with our heads held high after a solid year."
Â
The round was the final one of Trimble's tenure as she is set to retire from her position on June 30. "The program is in a great place, returning all but our lone senior, Olivia Cason, and with Whitney Wade Young leading the way I know they will continue to succeed!" Trimble said. "It is a bitter sweet day for me as I am so proud of this team and what they have accomplished and the people and players that they have grown to become. I will miss walking alongside such great players in the heat of competition but I am grateful for the chance to spend more time with my family."
Â
The Cardinals finished three shots back of 10th place LSU while ending the tournament four shots better than fellow ACC school North Carolina. UofL finished the day with 17 birdies as a team, more than anyone else had on the day, and tied for the most by a team in any round during the tournament.
