LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville sophomore Reid Detmers picked up All-America honors, as he was named to the second team by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
The sophomore is the 31st player in program history to earn All-America laurels and the 42nd All-American selection overall. During Dan McDonnell's 13 seasons, the Cardinals have had 38 All-America selections.
The 2019 ACC Pitcher of the Year, Detmers finished off the regular season as the ACC leader in wins, earned run average, strikeouts and opponents' batting average. The lefthander enters the NCAA Championship at 11-3 overall with a 2.80 ERA and 145 strikeouts, just one strikeout shy of tying Louisville's single season record set by Brendan McKay in 2017.
Detmers started on Opening Day for the Cardinals and paced the pitching staff throughout the season. The Chatham, Illinois, native tossed seven no-hit innings against Brown and James Madison in his second and third starts of the season before posting a career-best 16 strikeouts against Georgia Tech. The southpaw has struck out 10 or more in eight starts this season.
The accolades have rolled in throughout the season for Detmers, who is a two-time ACC Pitcher of the Week. Detmers was the Perfect Game Midseason National Pitcher of the Year, D1Baseball Midseason Top Pitcher and NCBWA National Pitcher of the Month for March. He also was a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Award and Golden Spikes Award.
Detmers helped the Cardinals capture their fourth ACC Atlantic Division crown in their five seasons as members of the league and earn the No. 7 national seed and host spot in the regional round of the NCAA Championship.
Louisville opens championship play on Friday against Illinois Chicago at Jim Patterson Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m., ET.
