
Cardinals Set for ACC Championships

The No. 8 Louisville men will compete for a team title Wednesday through Saturday.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The eighth-ranked University of Louisville men's swimming team is set to begin their championship season at the ACC Championships in Greensboro, N.C. at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. Following last week's diving competition, the Cardinals sit in fourth place with 123 points.
Competition kicks off on Wednesday evening at 4 p.m. with the finals of the 200 medley relay and 800 free relay. The remaining three days of the meet will begin with prelims at 10 a.m., followed by finals at 6 p.m. for the top-24 qualifiers from each event.
About the Cardinals
Louisville has finished second at each ACC Championships since joining the conference in the 2014-15 season. At last year's championships, Evgenii Somov led the Cardinals with a pair of gold medal finishes in the 100 and 200 breast. Nick Albiero also won two golds in the 200 fly and as a member of the 200 medley relay.
Marcelo Acosta turned in two bronze medal performances (500 Free/1650 Free) at the 2018 ACC Championships and won the 1650 free title in 2017. Also medaling individually for the for the Cardinals last season were Andrej Barna with a bronze in the 50 free and Daniel Sos with a bronze in the 200 IM.
The Cardinals also won medals in all five of the relays at the 2018 ACC Championships and are seeded in the top-three of each relay heading into this year's meet.
Scouting the Competition
NC State enters the meet as the top-ranked team, checking in at No. 3 in the final CSCAA/TYR poll. The Wolfpack are the defending ACC Champions and have won the team title for the past four years.
Virginia, who finished third at last year's championships, is ranked No. 14, followed by No. 19 Georgia Tech, No. 21 Virginia Tech, No. 22 Florida State and No. 23 Notre Dame.
