The Cardinals won every single set en route to the sweep.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's tennis team did not drop a single set as they powered to a 7-0 sweep over Austin Peay on Sunday evening at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. With the victory, the Cardinals improve to 9-3 on the season.
"I was really proud of the team," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "We had a really, really hard-fought win against a very good Purdue team. To come back and play very efficiently, very focused, with very few errors shows the growth and maturity of this team."
Sergio Hernandez Ramirez and Marcus Sulen kicked off the evening with a dominant 6-0 victory over Chad Woodham and Hunter Sanders at No. 3 doubles to give the Cardinals the initial advantage. Just minutes later, Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and Fabien Salle secured the doubles point with a 6-1 win over Almantas Ozelis and Anton Damberg at No. 1.
In other doubles action, Brandon Lancaster and George Hedley defeated Timo Kiesslich and Christian Edison 6-1 on court two.
The Cardinals picked up right where they left off in singles as Salle downed Edison 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2. Alex Wesbrooks quickly extended Louisville's advantage to 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Woodham on court six, but it was Federico Gomez who ultimately clinched the match as he triumphed over Kiesslich 6-2, 6-0.
On court four, Hernandez Ramirez triumphed over Damberg 6-3, 6-2 to increase the Cards' lead to 5-0. David Mizrahi then turned in a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Jacob Lorino on court five and Lancaster topped Ozelis 6-3, 7-5 at No. 1 to close out the sweep for the Cardinals.
The Cards will be back in action on Thursday for a doubleheader against Northern Kentucky (12 p.m.) and Xavier (6 p.m.) at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
