November 15, 2019 | Women's Golf
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville women's golf head coach Whitney Young has announced the signing of a pair of high school senior student-athletes in Carly Haines (Rye Brook, N.Y./Sacred Heart Greenwich) and Molly Lyne (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) to compete for the Cardinals beginning with the 2020-21 season.
"We are very excited to add Molly and Carly to our 2020 class," Young said. "They bring a great deal of experience to the table with both of them being highly ranked players in their respective states. Both have extremely high ceilings in regards to excelling at the next level. They possess everything we look for in a Louisville Cardinal; committed, hardworking, willing to learn, and competitiveness. The duo of this 2020 class will be an integral part to the future success of our program."
Haines competed in the Kentucky Women's Open in August, where she tied for third among all competitors, and second among amateurs. She tied for the lowest round of the tournament with a 1-under-par 71. Haines is a three-time Metropolitan PGA Junior Tour champion, while also earning a pair of runner-up finishes. For her career, she has 13 top-5 performances in Metro PGA Junior Tour events. She recorded a pair of runner-up finishes on the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour and is a three-time club champion at Wykagyl Country Club.
Lyne is a four-time Illinois High School Association Class 2A State qualifier. She finished third in 2016, 12th in 2017, 15th in 2018 and this past fall tied for fifth. Each of the last three years she was named the Northwest Herald Girls Golfer of the Year. She qualified and played in the IMG Academy Junior World Championship in July. Lyne earned a pair of medalist honors on the Mid-American Junior Golf Tour (MAJGT). She won the Kenosha Classic by six strokes and was the only player to finish under-par at the Whitetail Ridge Open. She finished the 2019 MAJGT season as the overall points leader. She has also won multiple Illinois Junior Golf Association tournaments.
Louisville returns to action February 17-18 when they host the Moon Golf Invitational at the Duran Golf Club in Melbourne, Florida.
