No. 14 Cardinals Fall to NC State in Regular Season Finale

Cardinals earn the fourth seed in the ACC Tournament and will host NC State on Sunday
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The 14th-ranked University of Louisville women's soccer team could not overcome a late goal by NC State in the first half as they dropped a 1-0 decision on Thursday, Oct. 31 at Lynn Stadium.

With the loss, the Cardinals conclude the regular season with a record of 12-3-2 and 5-3-2 in ACC action. The Wolfpack improve to 9-5-4 on the year and 4-2-2 in conference play.

Louisville's best scoring chance of the first half came in the 16th minute when Allison Whitfield sent a cross from the right side to Arianna Ferraro in front of the goal line, but her shot was stopped by the NC State keeper.

Despite out-shooting the Wolfpack 6-2 during the first 45 minutes of action, the Cardinals were unable to convert. NC State got on the board first with 56 seconds left in the half after a goal from Anna Toohey.

Louisville's best chance in the second half came in the 68th minute from Emina Ekic but the NC State keeper, Jessica Berlin, was able to corral the ball and fall on it for the save.Â

The Cardinals and the Wolfpack each had three shots throughout the second half, but Louisville could not get past Berlin, who finished the game with five saves. Between the posts for the Cardinals, Gabby Kouzelos recorded a pair of saves while Jessica De Filippo lead the Cardinals with two shots.
