Cards Top Butler 4-0 in Home Opener

Card post first shutout of the season
The University of Louisville men's tennis defeated Butler 4-0 in its home opener Friday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cardinals (2-0) will take on Lipscomb Friday evening in the second half of the doubleheader.
"I felt like our team really came out fired up," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "That Butler team on paper was an elite doubles squad. They had two of the semi-finalists of the regional championships. To beat them in doubles really swung the momentum our way. I thought we did a really great job and were prepared. With Brandon Lancaster, for him to come up from the No. 5/6 spot and start winning at the one spot has really made us stronger. It was really nice for three freshmen to come up with the win."
Louisville 4 – Butler 0
The Cardinals took the first point of the match with doubles wins on courts 1 and 2. Senior Brandon Lancaster and freshman Alex Wesbrooks gave Louisville an early lead with a 6-2 win over Michael Dickson and Adrian Mag at No. 2. At the top seed, senior Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and freshman Fabien Salle clinched the point with a 6-3 decision against Aviv Ben Shabat and Mason Dragos. The duo of senior Federico Gomez and freshman Sergio Hernandez Ramirez were leading Thomas Brennan and Spencer Lang 4-3 when their match was halted.
In singles action, Hernandez Ramirez beat Ryan Roegner 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5 to give the Cards a 2-0 lead. Salle picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win over Shabat to make the score 3-0. Freshman David Mizrahi secured the win with a 7-6, 6-0 victory over Lang.
