Cardinals Travel to Purdue for Stacey Clark Classic

UofL will face Lipscomb, Xavier and Purdue
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville volleyball team heads to West Lafayette, Ind. for the Stacey Clark Classic hosted by Purdue University. The Cardinals will face Lipscomb, Xavier, and No. 19-ranked Purdue.

Louisville will take on Lipscomb on Friday, Sep. 7 at 12 p.m. followed by Xavier at 5 p.m. The Cardinals will wrap up tournament play on Saturday, Sep. 8 at 7:30 p.m. against Purdue.

The Cardinals enter the tournament 4-2, enduring their first two losses of the season to No. 4-ranked Florida and No. 7-ranked USC during the Bubly Invitational. Melanie McHenry continues to lead the offense for the Cardinals, heading into the tournament with 62 kills. Molly Sauer continues to bolster the defense for Louisville with 82 digs. Jasmine Bennett continues to be a threat to opponents on both sides of play, tallying 53 kills and 20 blocks.

Lipscomb
The Bisons enter the weekend 3-2, coming off a sweep of San Diego State at the Cactus Classic. Lipscomb began the tournament by getting swept by Arizona (17-25, 20-25, 13-25). The Bisons managed to take a set from Pacific before falling 3-1 (25-22, 16-25, 16-25, 22-25). The Bisons finished with a sweep of San Diego State, defeating the Aztecs (25-22, 26-24, 27-25) to take the 3-0 win in Tuscon, Ariz.

Senior outside hitter Carlyle Nusbaum leads both the offense and defense for the Bisons, recording 76 kills and 43 digs. Sophomore Megan Kuper has also been producing for Lipscomb with 36 kills and 21 digs.

Xavier
Xavier heads to West Lafayette, Ind. with an overall record of 1-4. The Musketeers are coming off a three-loss trip to Puerto Rico where they were swept by Missouri (19-25, 21-25, 21-25) and Towson (20-25, 25-27, 17-25). Xavier took the second set from Arizona State, 25-13, but eventually fell 3-1 (13-25, 25-13, 23-25, 21-25).

Senior outside hitter Laura Grossman has shown to be a threat for the Musketeers, leading the team in kills at 58 while also recording 39 digs. Senior libero Meredith Klare leads the defensive efforts for Xavier with a team-high 61 digs.

Purdue
The No. 19-ranked Boilermakers start the weekend undefeated so far in the 2018 season. Purdue recently beat both Oakland and Notre Dame 3-1. The two sets given up by Purdue were the first two sets given up all season, after starting the year with three straight sweeps at the Purdue Reamer Club Xtra Special Volleyball Premier Tournament.

Senior outside hitter Sherridan Atkinson leads the offensive production for the Boilermakers with 46 kills. Atkindon also has a team-high .409 hitting percentage. Senior defensive specialist Brooke Peters is a threat on defense with 51 digs.
