
Cardinals Sweep Georgia Tech and Stay Unbeaten In ACC

Cards roll 25-16, 25-21, 25-17
Megan Sloan had 12 kills and three blocks to lead the University of Louisville to a 25-16, 25-21, 25-17 sweep at Georgia Tech in ACC Volleyball action Friday night in Atlanta.

The Cards moved to 10-4 on the season and are 3-0 in the ACC. UofL hit .356 with seven aces and nine blocks.  For the Cards, Emily Scott connected for 11 kills on 16 swings and no errors, adding six blocks. Melanie McHenry had three aces with eight kills, Wilma Rivera had a match-high 34 assists and libero Molly Sauer notched 15 digs. Georgia Tech drops to 11-5 and 0-3 in the ACC. The Yellow Jackets were led by Mikaila Dowd's 12 kills. GT hit .198 with no aces and two blocks.

UofL popped out to a 10-5 lead in the first set and used .385 hitting and aggressive serving for four aces to keep Tech at bay. The Cards spread the lead to six at 20-14 and then outscored the Yellow Jackets 5-1 down the stretch for the 25-16 win. Piper Roe and Melanie McHenry had three kills apiece to pace the Cards.

The Cards trailed 12-9 early in the second set but used a 12-4 run late to go up 21-16. Georgia Tech mounted a comeback and got to within two at 22-20 on a kill by Mikaila Dowd. But the Cards finished out the set on a kill by Melanie McHenry and a block by Megan Sloan and Piper Roe for the 25-21 win. Emily Scott had five kills on seven swings to lead the Cards.

In the third set, Louisville used a 9-1 run which forced GT to burn both timeouts as the Cards pulled out to a 17-7 lead. The Cards hit .543 in the set with Megan Sloan going off for nine kills in the stanza. A kill by Amanda Green gave UofL set point at 24-15. Tech staved off match point three times before Sloan connected with setter Wilma Rivera for the match winner and the 25-17 win.

The Cardinals head on to face the Tigers for a 1 p.m. match at Clemson as ACC play continues.
