Cards Set for ITA/All-American Championships
September 28, 2018 | Men's Tennis
Pre-qualifying play starts Saturday
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's tennis team will send select players to compete against the nation's best at the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla from Sept. 29-Oct. 7.
"I am excited for Brandon, Fede, and George," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "The All-American Championship will give the venue to attain a national singles ranking. It is one of the collegiate grand slam type of tournaments and they do a great job of running it. In 2015, it helped Sebastian Stiefelmeyer to be ranked No.1 nationally."
Seniors Brandon Lancaster, Federico Gomez and George Hedley will represent the Cardinals in the tournament which includes a pre-qualifying round (Sept. 29-30), qualifying round (Oct. 1-2) and the main draw (Oct. 4-8). Championship matches for singles and doubles matches will be played on Monday, Oct. 8.
The Cardinals are coming off a pair of strong performances in their 2018-19 season debut. At the Vanderbilt Commodore Scramble, the duo of Brandon Lancaster and George Hedley captured the doubles title, while freshman David Mizrahi was undefeated at the Greater Cincinnati Collegiate Invitational.
