UofL Tabbed No. 22 by Golfweek to Start Season
August 31, 2018 | Women's Golf
The Cardinals return four golfers from last year’s lineup that played at the NCAA Championship.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's golf team will open the 2018-19 campaign rated No. 22 in the Golfweek Preseason Top 30, it was announced on Friday.
The Cardinals start the season at the Minnesota Invitational, a two-day event in Minneapolis that begins on Sept. 10. Louisville tied for fifth last season at the tournament, which again is being played at the Prestwick Golf Club.
Louisville put together one of its best seasons in program history in 2017-18, advancing to the NCAA Championship for the second time in school history. The Cardinals earned their highest finish at an NCAA Regional Championship, placing fourth, and captured three team titles. The 2017-18 squad set the school record for four-player team scoring, boasting a 293.61 average.
The Cardinals return seven letterwinners from that team, including four golfers from last year's championship lineup. Junior Lauren Hartlage headlines the group as a two-time all-ACC honoree. She set the school's single-season record with 20 rounds even or below par and produced the program's second-best stroke average for a season at 72.24.
Two newcomers joined the team this fall in freshmen Mairead Martin, an Ireland native, and Lauren Thibodeau, a product from New Hampshire.
Head coach Courtney Trimble, who is entering her seventh season at the helm of the program, has directed Louisville to 13 titles and five NCAA Regional Championship appearances.
