LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville women's golfers Kristin Engle, Lauren Hartlage, and Delaney Shah are participating in the 118th U.S. Women's Amateur Championship, which starts on Monday in Kingston Springs, Tennessee.
The trio of Cardinals each advanced to the final 156-player field from their respective qualifying sites. Hartlage won the Dayton, Ohio, sectional qualifier, while Engle took fifth at the event in mid-July. Shah placed fourth at the Bethesda, Maryland, event two days prior to secure her spot in the championship.
The U.S. Women's Amateur Championship is being played at the Golf Club of Tennessee, a par-71, 6,365-yard course. Fox Sports 1 is broadcasting from Wednesday-Friday, with coverage from 4-7 p.m., and also from on Sunday, the final day of action, from 2-5 p.m. Saturday's coverage is being shown on Fox Sports 2 from 11:10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
All golfers are scheduled to compete in 36 holes of stroke play, 18 apiece on Wednesday and Thursday, before the field is cut to the low 64 for match play. If necessary, a playoff will be conducted to trim the field.
Hartlage is the first of the Cardinals to tee off, starting on No. 1 at 8:55 a.m. ET. Engle starts play at 1:52 p.m., also on No. 1, and Shah tees off from hole No. 10 at 2:36 p.m.
The Elizabethtown, Kentucky, native, Hartlage is coming off a victory at the Kentucky Women's Open Championship last week at the UofL Golf Club. The rising junior shot a 6-under-par 138, beating teammate Olivia Cason in a one-hole playoff, for the title. During the collegiate season, Hartlage earned all-ACC honors for the second-consecutive season after pacing the team in stroke average (72.24), rounds even or below par (20), and top-10 finishes (7).
Engle had a solid freshman season at UofL, playing in all 13 events. She put together a 75.16 stroke average, the fourth-best mark on the team, and contributed 27.5 rounds to the team score.
Shah hit her stride late in the 2017-18 campaign. The rising junior finished the season with a 75.65 average, a full three strokes better than her freshman season. Between the NCAA San Francisco Regional and the NCAA Championships, she contributed four rounds to the team score. Her career best 54-hole score came at the regional, where she tied for 13th with a 1-under-par 215 to aid Louisville to its second national championships appearance.
