The Cardinals play host to the 15th Cardinal Cup Oct. 20-21 at the UofL Golf Club.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's golf team visits 10 different states and travels to the Dominican Republic as part of a highly competitive 2018-19 schedule that was unveiled Wednesday.
The Cardinals are coming off one of the most successful seasons in school history, which concluded with the program's second appearance at the national championships. Louisville earned its highest finish at an NCAA Regional Championship, placing fourth, and captured three team titles. The 2017-18 squad set the school record for four-player team scoring, boasting a 293.61 average.
“We are really looking forward to another great season with a challenging schedule week in and week out,” said head coach Courtney Trimble, who is preparing for her seventh season at the helm of the program. “We are returning to several familiar courses, including Atlanta Athletic Club, Auburn University Club, and UGA Golf Course, and we look forward to competing against some of the best teams in the country.”
Louisville opens the year at the Minnesota Invitational for the second-consecutive season, competing Sept. 10-11 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Last year, the Cardinals compiled the second-best score in a tournament in school history, shooting a 9-under-par 855.
The Cardinals then head to the Mason Rudolph Championship from Sept. 21-23 in Franklin, Tenn. Teams will participate in the three-day event at the Vanderbilt Legends North Course, which served as site of the 2012 women's national championship.
Following a three-week break, the Cardinals trek east to the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational from Oct. 12-14 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Louisville plays host to the 15th Cardinal Cup from Oct. 20-21 at the UofL Golf Club. Lauren Hartlage's career-best 10-under-par 206, a Cardinal Cup record and tied for the second-best 54-hole score in program history, propelled Louisville to its eighth team title.
The Cardinals wrap up the fall season with the inaugural Alexa Stirling Women's Intercollegiate Invitational, held from Oct. 26-28 at Atlanta Athletic Club in Georgia. The tournament was named to honor Alexa Stirling, an Atlanta native, who won three U.S. Women's Amateur golf championships, two Canadian Women's Amateur titles, and was inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in 1978.
Louisville opens its spring slate with the second edition of the Moon Golf Invitational from Feb. 18-19 in Melbourne, Florida, before squaring off with Kentucky in a dual in the annual Battle of the Bluegrass State on March 4.
The Cardinals' headline trip is to the Tar Heel Classic, a two-day event from March 15-16 in the Dominican Republic. Teams in the field will play at one the Casa de Campo Resort's three golf courses.
Louisville visits Auburn, Alabama, to compete in the second-annual Evans Derby Experience, named for former Auburn head coaches Kim Evans and Virginia Derby Grimes, from March 23-25. The Cardinals wrap up the regular season in Georgia, with the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic from April 11-13.
Postseason for Louisville begins at the ACC Championship from April 18-20 in Greensboro, N.C. Two weeks later, the NCAA Regional Championships are being held from May 6-8, and teams will be qualifying to play at one of the four sites: Auburn, Alabama; Cle Elum, Washington; East Lansing, Michigan; and, Norman, Oklahoma.
The 2019 national championships are taking place at The Blessings Golf Club from May 17-22 in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and hosted by University of Arkansas. It is the first time the course, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., is serving as the site of a national championship.
