LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville women's golfers Molly Skapik, Lauren Hartlage, Delaney Shah, Olivia Cason, and Kristin Engle were named Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholars, the organization announced recently.
The WGCA recognized 1,011 women's collegiate golfers from Divisions I, II, and III with the prestigious honor for maintaining at least a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average.
Louisville's five selections are the most in the Atlantic Coast Conference for the second-consecutive year, and it ties a program record that previously was set four times (2004, 2012, 2013, and 2017).
Louisville has placed at least three on the list each year since head coach Courtney Trimble took the reins of the program in 2012, and her athletes have been recognized a stellar 26 times in that span. In total, 27 student-athletes – 13 under Trimble – achieved All-American Scholar status since the inception of the program in 2000.
Skapik, a three-time honoree, graduated in the spring with a bachelor's degree in accounting. The Miamisburg, Ohio, native finished with a 3.66 cumulative GPA and earned Dean's List accolades both the fall and spring of her senior season. She played in 42 tournaments in the four years, registering a 75.17 stroke average for the ninth-best career mark in school history.
For Hartlage, it is her third major academic honor this season. The rising junior, who earned the award for the second-consecutive season, also was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large Team and the all-ACC Academic Women's Golf Team. The Elizabethtown, Ky., native boasts a 3.983 cumulative grade-point and is majoring in finance.
On the course, Hartlage secured Golfweek All-America honorable mention accolades and all-ACC honors after compiling another record-setting season. She set the program's single-season record with 20 rounds even or below par, compiled the second-best stroke average at 72.24, and tied for the second-most top-10 finishes with seven.
Shah, also a two-time honoree, is heading into her junior season with a 3.79 GPA in sport administration. The North Potomac, Md., native put together a solid season on the course, shaving three strokes off her freshman average and contributing 7.5 rounds to the team score. She shot a career-best 1-under-par 215 at the NCAA San Francisco Regional, helping the Cardinals advance to the NCAA Championship for the second time in program history.
Cason and Engle each were named to the team for the first time in their careers.
Cason, a finance major, boasts a 3.503 heading into her senior campaign. The Owensboro, Ky., native, who earned all-ACC Academic Team honors, was third on the team in stroke average last season with a 74.74 clip.
A sport administration major, Engle was perfect in the classroom, attaining a 4.0 GPA her freshman year. The rising sophomore from Barbourville, Ky., played in all 13 events in 2017-18. She compiled a 75.16 average, the fourth-best mark on the team, and produced five rounds even or below par.
Collectively, Louisville achieved a 3.544 GPA for the academic year. It has produced at least a 3.4 grade-point average in 15-consecutive semesters, including four straight with a 3.5.
