Morin-Kougoucheff named to second team, Wynn selected to third team
LOUISVILLE, KY. – The University of Louisville's Christopher-Morin Kougoucheff earned All-ACC Men's Tennis second team honors and Parker Wynn was named to the third team as announced by the league office Thursday.
Morin-Kougoucheff, a junior from Capbreton, France, earns his second straight All-ACC second team selection after compiling a 19-10 overall record with a 13-5 mark at No. 1 in dual match play. He has been recognized in the ITA National Rankings seven times throughout the season, reaching as high as No. 53 on April 17. The junior earned ACC Player of the Week honors on February 13 after helping the Cards to a perfect 3-0 record over the course of a weekend, including posting an upset win over then-No. 63 Luca Keist of Charlotte.
"Even though I was hoping for Chris to get be on the first team, second team All-ACC is a big deal especially from America's top tennis conference," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "Chris was 7-3 with a few unfinished matches at No. 1 singles. He was also ranked as high as No. 53 in doubles and No. 6 in singles. He was also one of the most improved players in the ACC in my opinion.
Wynn takes home his second consecutive all-conference third team honor and boasts the Cardinals' top singles record with an overall mark of 25-10, while going 15-5 in dual match action, primarily playing at No. 2. The sophomore from North Richland, Texas spent nine weeks throughout the season in the ITA rankings, reaching as high as No. 90 on March 6. He was named ACC Player of the Week after upsetting then-18th ranked Aswin Lizen in the Cards' win over defending national champion Virginia.
"I am very proud of Parker's third team designation," said Ecarma. "Parker had another good season as well and established himself as one of the elite doubles players in the country being ranked with Chris at No. 6 and Ciro Lampasas at No. 24. He was also nationally ranked in the 90s despite not finishing matches he was close to winning against higher-ranked players. Both Chris and Parker are also good team leaders and have a very bright future."
Morin-Kougoucheff and Wynn also earned a spot in the 2018 NCAA Doubles Championship after a stellar season as a doubles pair, posting a 15-5 mark in dual match action. The duo appeared in the ITA doubles standings 11 times throughout the season, spending the last six ranking periods in the top 20. The duo reached its highest ranking at sixth in the national upon the conclusion of the fall tournament season. They earned ACC Doubles Team of the Week honors after downing Virginia 6-1 on March 2.
