Men's Tennis to Host a Pair of Ranked Opponents This Weekend

The Cards play No. 1 Wake Forest on Friday, followed by No. 23 NC State on Sunday for Senior Day.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After four matches on the road, the University of Louisville men's tennis team returns to the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center for their final two home matches against Wake Forest and NC State. The Cards first welcome top-ranked Wake Forest on Friday at 3 p.m., followed by a Sunday afternoon matchup against No. 23 NC State at 12 p.m. Sunday's match will serve as Senior Day for Ciro Lampasas, Nicolas Rouanet, and Santiago Salazar.
"It's a big weekend for us to say the least," said UofL head Rex Ecarma. "We are currently tied for fourth place with NC State who we play on Senior Day Sunday. Also tomorrow we play No. 1 Wake Forest. A successful weekend can get us a high seed in the ACC Tournament."

Last time out, the No. 39 Cardinals (15-7, 5-4 ACC) split against two ranked ACC opponents in the final two contests of a four-match road stint. Louisville fell to No. 5 North Carolina in a 6-1 decision, but bounced back with a 5-2 upset win over No. 18 Duke. After losing the doubles point, the Cards won five singles matches to rally past the Blue Devils. Junior George Hedley clinched the victory with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Jason Lapidus at No. 6.
Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and Parker Wynn climbed three spots in the latest ITA rankings, checking in as the No. 14 doubles team. They have compiled a record of 26-10 and are 14-5 in dual match action with five wins against other nationally ranked competitors.
In singles, Morin-Kougoucheff is the Cardinals' top-ranked player at No. 63. The junior holds an 11-3 record at the one-spot and has defeated six nationally ranked players on the season. Wynn has also been instrumental for the Cards this season with a 15-3 record in dual match action.

Scouting the Demon Deacons: Wake Forest enters Friday's matchup as the top-ranked team in the nation with an overall record of 18-2 and an ACC record of 7-1. In their latest outing, the Demon Deacons took down Georgia Tech in a 5-2 decision. Five of the Demon Deacons' doubles teams were recognized in the latest ITA rankings, highlighted by Petros Chrysochos and Skander Mansouri at No. 2 with a perfect 7-0 record. Wake Forest also boasts five players in the latest ITA singles rankings, led by No. 5 Chrysochos with a 3-0 record at No. 1 and a 13-1 record at No. 2. Borna Gojo also ranks in the top-10, sitting seventh with a 9-2 mark at the one-spot.

Scouting the Wolfpack: Last time out, the Wolfpack (15-5, 5-4) defeated Clemson by a mark of 4-1. The doubles team of Alexis Galarneau and Michael Odgen leads NC State in the ITA rankings at No. 69 with a dual match record of 5-2. In singles, Galarneau received the No. 37 ranking in the latest ITA standings and holds a 9-7 mark at No. 1. Before making the trip to Louisville, the Wolfpack will play Virginia on Friday.
Up Next: The Cards travel to Blacksburg, Va. on Friday, April 20 for their regular season finale against Virginia Tech. Match time is slated for 11 a.m.
