Men's Tennis Falls to No. 1 Wake Forest

George Hedley and Fredrik Moe clinched the doubles point for Louisville.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Despite winning the doubles point in emphatic fashion, the University of Louisville men's tennis team fell 4-1 to top-ranked Wake Forest on Friday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. With the loss, the Cardinals drop to 15-8 overall and 5-5 in ACC play.
"It was great to clinch the doubles point in front of a crowd," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "It was a great feeling. We felt really good about doubles because that was our goal all week, to get back to winning doubles points."
The Demon Deacons took the first doubles match as the No. 60 duo of Bar Botzer and Petros Chrysochos defeated Federico Gomez and Ciro Lampasas 6-3 on court two. At the one-spot, the No. 14 doubles team of Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and Parker Wynn responded with a 6-3 victory over Wake Forest's No. 17 Skander Mansouri and Ian Dempster. With the doubles point on the line, George Hedley and Fredrik Moe downed Borna Gojo and Alan Gadjiev at No. 3 in a thrilling 7-6 (9-7) decision to give Louisville the 1-0 lead.
In singles, Wake Forest quickly knotted the score at 1-1 when fifth-ranked Chrysochos topped Wynn 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2. On court four, Botzer gave the Demon Deacons a 2-1 advantage with his 6-2, 6-0 win over Hedley.
Wake Forest won the final two points of the match with victories on courts three and six. Gomez fell 6-3, 6-4 to No. 46 Mansouri at No. 3, and Rrezart Cungu triumphed over Lampasas by a mark of 6-4, 6-0 at the six-spot.
In other singles action, No. 63 Morin-Kougoucheff was down 6-4, 5-2 to seventh-ranked Gojo at No. 1 before the match was suspended. Brandon Lancaster edged Julian Zlobinsky 6-3 in his first set and was down 5-3 in the second before play was halted.
The Cards will be back in action at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center on Sunday at 12 p.m. for their final home match of the season against No. 23 NC State. Ciro Lampasas, Nicolas Rouanet, and Santiago Salazar will be honored for Senior Day prior to the start of the match.
