Men's Tennis Falls Short Against No. 23 NC State

Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff defeated his seventh nationally-ranked opponent of the season.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 39 University of Louisville men's tennis team dropped a 4-2 decision to No. 23 NC State on Sunday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 15-8 overall and 5-6 in ACC play.
Prior to the start of the match, Ciro Lampasas, Nicolas Rouanet, and Santiago Salazar were honored for Senior Day.
Despite a late push from the Cards, the Wolfpack won the doubles point to gain the early 1-0 lead in the match. The No. 69 doubles team of Alexis Galarneau and Michael Ogden won 6-4 over Federico Gomez and Brandon Lancaster on court two, followed by Tadas Babelis and Georgiy Malyshev's 6-4 victory over George Hedley and Fredrik Moe at No. 3. The No. 14 duo of Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and Parker Wynn were tied 5-5 with Igor and Ivan Saveljic before play was halted.
Ivan Saveljic increased NC State's lead to 2-0, topping Lancaster 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. On court one, No. 63 Morin-Kougoucheff defeated his seventh nationally ranked opponent of the season, downing No. 37 Galarneau by a mark of 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 to put the Cardinals on the board. NC State quickly countered as Robert Turzak prevailed 6-2, 6-2 over Clement Filho at the six-spot to extend the Wolfpack lead to a 3-1.
Rouanet brought the Cards within one point with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Malyshev on court five. After falling 6-3 in the first set, Gomez rallied to a 6-4 victory in his second set at the three-spot. However, Babelis eventually clinched the 4-2 win for the Wolfpack in a 7-5 decision in the third set.
In other singles action, No. 106 Wynn dropped his first set 7-5, but won the second 6-3 over No. 121 Igor Saveljic. The sophomore was down 5-2 in the third before the match was abandoned.
Up next, the Cards travel to Blacksburg, Va. on Friday for their regular season finale against Virginia Tech. Match time is slated for 11 a.m.
