Softball Stumbles at Lipscomb

Cards take an early lead, but Bisons rally late to win 3-1
NASHVILLE – The University of Louisville softball team fell 3-1 to Lipscomb in a midweek game at Lipscomb's Draper Diamond Wednesday evening. The Cardinals (22-10) will return to action this weekend when they play host to North Carolina State in a three-game ACC series starting with a doubleheader on Friday at Ulmer Stadium.

Louisville took an early 1-0 lead, but a solo home run in the fifth along with an error and an RBI hit in the sixth helped Lipscomb (20-9) rally to win the game.

The Cardinals got on the scoreboard when senior Nicole Pufahl led off the second with a double, took third on senior Jenna Jordan's sacrifice bunt and scored a hit by fellow senior Jamie Soles.

The Bisons answered in the bottom of the fifth when Sarah Higgins launched a two-out solo shot over the left field to even in the score at 1-1.

In the sixth inning, Lipscomb used three hits, a walk and an error to score a pair of runs and take a 3-1 lead. Destinee Brewer got the offense started with an infield single and took second on Graysen Gladden's sacrifice bunt. Caitlin Turner's base hit put runners on the corners and sent Gladden home to push the Bisons ahead 2-1. Jenna Florel's RBI single plated an insurance run.

Junior Megan Hensley (8-4) took the loss, giving up two earned runs on three hits in 1.1 innings of relief. Freshman Danielle Watson started the game and surrendered one earned runs on four hits and fanned seven in 4.2 innings. Sophomore Caitlin Ferguson went 3-for-3 to pace the Cardinals offensively.

Chloe Yeager (1-1) picked up the win after allowing one earned run on seven hits and striking out three in a complete game effort. The Bisons were led by at the plate by Brewer who went 3-for-3 with a run.
