
Men's Swimming Earns All-American Honors in 800 Free Relay at NCAAs

Cards make podium in first race of the meet
The University of Louisville men's swimming and diving team opened the NCAA Championships with a season-best performance in the men's 800-yard freestyle relay and sit in seventh after one day of competition at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.

After winning their heat in the timed final, Cardinals finished seventh in the 800 Free Relay. Nick Albiero (1:33.11), Zach Harting (1:32.11), Andrej Barna (1:33.91) and Sam Steele (1:34.36) put together a 6:13.49. It was the third fastest time ever for a Cardinal relay in this event and three seconds faster than the qualifying time.

Indiana's Blake Pieroni went 1:29.63 on the leadoff leg to become the first man ever to break 1:30 in the 200. The event was won by NC State, which defended its title from a year ago when The team of Andreas Vazaios, Ryan Held, Jacob Molacek and Justin Ress put up a 6:05.31 to break the U.S. Open and NCAA records.

 Action will resume at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center at 11 a.m. (ET) on Thursday as the team competes in the 200 free relay, 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free and 400 medley relay
