Track and Field Finishes Hoosier Hills Invitational with 25 Top-Three Performances

Alexis Gibbons sets a new school record for the Cardinals
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The University of Louisville track and field teams finished the Hoosier Hills Invitational with one school record, nine wins, and 25 top-three performances. The men's team tallied 10 top-three performances while the women's team brought in 15.

"We made great progress tonight at the Hoosier Hills Invitational in Bloomington," said head coach Dale Cowper. "It was exciting to see our field events continue to move forward as the ACC Championships are up next."Â
Alexis Gibbons led the women's side with a win in the long jump. The sophomore jumped 6.27m/20'6 ¾" to beat her own school record by a centimeter. Teammate Gabriela Leon finished second with a personal record jump of 6.01m/19'8 ½".Â
"Alexis Gibbons was the biggest highlight with a new school record in the women's long jump," said Cowper. "Her consistency on the runway is continuing to develop and it looks like bigger leaps are in her future.Â
Emmonnie Henderson added to the women's field success, winning the weight throw with a personal record toss of 20.24m/66'4 ¾" and the shot put with a throw of 16.74m/54'11 ¼". Freshman Makenli Forrest finished second in the weight throw with a personal record of 19.77m/64'10 ¼". Â
Alivia Ash picked up another win on the women's side clearing 1.72m/5'7 ¾" in the high jump while Leon had a season best performance in the pole vault. The freshman cleared 4.11m/13'5 ¾" for another second place finish.   Freshman Brooke Raglin led the women's team on the track with a first place finish of 7.53 in the 60 meter dash and a third place finish in the 200 with a time of 24.88.

Christian Buckley and Jerin Allen led the men's field events with wins in the shot put and high jump. Buckley threw 17.50m/57'5" for a new personal record while Allen cleared 2.12m/6'11 ½". Marcus Jegede and Donald McClinton found success in the men's long jump taking second and third place. Jegede jumped a personal best of 7.51m/24'7 ¾" while McClinton jumped 7.12m/23'4 ½".

Jonathan Reynolds and Carlos Coleman led the men's side on the track with wins in the 800 meter run and 400 meter dash. Reynolds ran a season best time of 1:56.41 in the 800 while Coleman clocked in at 48.39 in the 400 meter dash.

 The Cards will be back in action February 22-24 at the ACC Championships in Clemson, S.C.
