Holly Hankeson earns her first ACC Championship while Linda Mutter earns All-ACC honors
CLEMSON, S.C. -- The University of Louisville track and field teams wrapped up day one of the ACC Indoor Championships with a school record and two personal best finishes. The women are in second place with 13 points after scoring two events.
Holly Hankenson led the Cards earning 10 points from her first place finish in the pentathlon. The junior tallied 4,175 points to beat her own school record by 24 points. With this performance, Hankenson earns first team All-ACC honors and will advance to the NCAA Indoor Championship.
"I can't say enough about the effort that Holly Hankenson put forth today," said head coach Dale Cowper. "She becomes our first ACC champion of the weekend and her school record performance will also advance to the NCAA indoor championships in two weeks."
Senior Linda Mutter picked up an additional three points for the women with a sixth place finish in the pentathlon. Her score of 3,754 points was good enough for a personal record and second team All-ACC honors.
"Linda Mutter also came through big to earn All-ACC second team honors in the pentathlon with a sixth place finish," said Cowper.
Joe Delgado led the Cards on the men's side racking up 3,159 points after four events in the heptathlon. The redshirt-senior leads the pack by 111 points with three events left.
"Joe Delgado had an impressive opening day in the men's heptathlon and is in a great position heading into day two," said Cowper. "My hat goes off to Coach Rasnick as she has really gotten this group ready at the right time."
Eric Fox and Dominic McClinton will join Delgado to wrap up the heptathlon Friday morning at 10:00 a.m.
