Cards appear in final ITA fall rankings
The University of Louisville's Brandon Lancaster is No. 104 in the ITA singles rankings and joins fellow senior George Hedley at No. 34 in the national doubles standings.
Lancaster, a senior from Louisville, Kentucky (St. Xavier), posted a 7-4 singles record in the fall, winning four of his first five matches and advancing to the second round of the ITA All-American Prequalifying draw. He finished the fall season on a two-match win streak.
"I am very happy for Brandon," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "He and I set a goal in August to be nationally ranked in singles. Despite an injury that took him off the court for nearly four weeks, he achieved enough wins for the ranking. If he can stay injury free next semester, he can move up."
In doubles, Lancaster started the fall season ranked No. 53 with Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff. He teamed with Hedley (Berkshire, England) for a team-best 5-1 mark and captured the Vanderbilt Commodore Scramble doubles title.
"I am proud of George and Brandon in doubles," said Ecarma. "They only played two tournaments together, but winning the Vanderbilt tournament got them a good ranking. I am not surprised, they played like a top doubles team at that tournament. They will get chances to play other ranked teams next semester, so I am excited about the possibilities."
