
Cardinals Set for IU Invitational

Louisville will compete against multiple ranked opponents in a three-day prelims/finals meet.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 8/9 University of Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving team will head to Bloomington, Ind. this weekend for the Indiana Invitational, which will take place at Indiana's Counsilman/Billingsley Aquatic Center Thursday through Saturday.
The invitational will be held in a prelims-finals format with the top-24 individual swimmers from the preliminaries qualifying for three heats of A, B and C finals. Swimming prelims begin at 9 a.m. each morning, followed by finals at 5 p.m. Diving will begin at 10:30 a.m.
The Cardinals will be joined by several of the nation's top teams, including Indiana, Arizona State, NC State, Purdue and SMU.
ABOUT LOUISVILLE
Last time out, 11 Cardinals represented the Atlantic Coast Conference at the inaugural ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Mallory Comerford was the ACC women's top performer, becoming the first swimmer to break 47 seconds and winning the 100 free with an NCAA A cut time of 46.96. Comerford also competed on all four of the ACC's second place relays and contributed the fastest splits of the entire field on each relay.
Grace Oglesby also had a strong meet for the ACC. The junior won the 200 fly by over a full second with a time of 1:54.07 and finished second in the 100 distance with a 51.64. Nicolas Albiero was Louisville's top scorer on the men's side, adding a second place finish in the 200 back (1:41.70) and a third place in the 200 fly (1:42.96).
The Cardinal women own a number of top-10 times in the nation so far this season, led by Comerford with the No. 1 time in the 100 free, No. 2 time in the 200 free, No. 3 time in the 500 free and No. 8 time in the 50 free. Oglesby (200 fly) and Sophie Cattermole (1650 free) also hold the nation-leading times in their respective events. Additionally, four of the Cardinals' relays sit atop the standings. In diving, Molly Fears ranks fifth on the platform with a score of 255.65.
Seven Louisville men are ranked among the top-10 in their individual events, led by Marcelo Acosta with the top time in the 1650 free, as well as the No. 3 time in the 1000 free and fifth-ranked time in the 500 free. Albiero holds top-three times in the both the 200 back and 200 fly. The Cardinals also boast three top-10 relays, including the second-ranked 400 medley relay.
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
The No. 2 Indiana men are a perfect 5-0 in dual meet competition, highlighted by a dominant victory over the reigning national champion Texas Longhorns, who have won the NCAA title for four consecutive seasons. Three Hoosiers hold nation-leading times in their respective individual events, including Mohamed Hassan (200 free), Ian Finnerty (100 breast) and Vinicius Lanza (100/200 fly).
On the women's side, the No. 13 Hoosiers are 2-2-1 with their only losses coming at the hands of ranked opponents in Florida and Texas. Olympic gold medalist Lilly King leads the Hoosiers with the top-ranked times in the 100 and 200 breast.
The third-ranked NC State men are also undefeated in dual meet action after winning last year's ACC Championships and placing fourth at NCAAs. Jacob Molacek (100 free), Coleman Stewart (100 back) and Andreas Vazaios (200 IM) all hold the No. 1 times in their individual events. Freshman Emma Muzzy leads the undefeated No. 7 Wolfpack women with the nation's second-ranked time in the 400 IM.
The Arizona State Sun Devils have been on the rise for the past two seasons as the No. 17 men finished 20th at last year's NCAAs and the women posted their highest Pac-12 finish in 25 years.
Purdue's No. 17 women have swam against a trio of ranked opponents and boast an upset victory over then-No. 14 Wisconsin. The Boilermakers are led by Jinq En Phee, who is one of just six swimmers to break the one-minute mark in the 100 breast so far this season.
Rounding out the contending teams is SMU, who will only be competing in diving. The Mustangs are headlined by Parker Hardigree and Johanna Holloway, who swept this week's American Athletic Conference weekly awards.
