Senior Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff advances in qualifying draw
The University of Louisville's Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff opened the USTA Futures F29 qualifying draw with a win Friday at Birmingham's Highland Park Tennis Center.
"This is a top level tournament," said UofL assistant coach Jakob Gustafsson. "Because of the ranking system you have some top 20 collegiate players unseeded in the qualifying and every match is extremely dangerous. It was great to see Chris continue his return to match play with a quality win. He played a very clean first set with only four errors followed by an extremely physical second set. Tomorrow will be another level up and we will do our best to get recovered and ready for that."
The senior from Capbreton, France beat Alabama's Sam Fischer 6-1, 7-5 to notch his fourth straight singles win of the fall season.
The tournament will continue on Saturday.
