Cardinals Head to Tennessee for Top-15 Matchup

The eighth-ranked Louisville women and No. 11 Louisville men will meet No. 9/12 Tennessee in Knoxville.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving teams travel to Knoxville, Tenn. on Thursday for a top-15 matchup against the Tennessee Volunteers. Competition is slated to begin at 2 p.m. inside the Jones Aquatic Center.
About the Cardinals
Last time out, the eighth-ranked Louisville women won the SMU Classic by a commanding 46 points, beating No. 10 Virginia and No. 11 USC. The Cardinals won all four relays and four individual events, while also breaking two meet records en route to the victory. The No. 11 Cardinal men were defeated 192-161 by No. 16 Ohio State and 190-162 by No. 10 Texas A&M in their last outing. Nicolas Albiero (100 back/200 fly) and Marcelo Acosta (500 free/1000 free) each posted a pair of wins to lead the Cardinals.
Eight Louisville women have posted times that rank among the top-10 swims in the country, led by Mallory Comerford who holds the nation's top times in the 100 free (47.57), 200 free (1:42.79) and 500 free (4:40.43). Comerford is also the only swimmer in the nation who has recorded an NCAA 'A' cut so far this season. Additionally, the Cardinals hold the top spot in the 200 free relay, 800 free relay, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay. In diving, Molly Fears ranks eighth on the 1-meter with a score of 314.63.
On the men's side, Albiero leads Louisville with the ninth-ranked times in the 100 back (48.03) and 200 fly (1:47.21). Daniel Sos also ranks among the nation's best in the 400 IM, checking in at No. 9 with a time of 3:53.63. Three of the Cardinals' relays are top-10 in Division I, including the No. 7 400 medley relay, No. 9 200 medley relay and No. 10 400 free relay.

The Tennessee Volunteers will host Louisville in their first dual meet of the 2018-19 season. On the women's side, Tennessee was tabbed at No. 9 in the TYR/CSCAA rankings as they return eight from last year's squad that finished seventh at the NCAA Championships. The Volunteers are led by junior Erika Brown, who placed second in the 50 free and sixth in the 100 free at NCAAs.
Tennessee's No. 12 men placed 11th at the NCAA Championships a season ago and were led by diver Zhipeng Zeng who won the platform title and took second on the 3-meter. For his performances, the senior also earned CSCAA National Diver of the Year honors.
