Scout Day allows Major League Baseball scouts and team personnel to observe the progress of Louisville's draft-eligible players. The Cardinals will use wooden bats at the plate while the team's junior and senior pitchers will work from the mound during the scrimmage.
Since the hiring of head coach Dan McDonnell prior to the 2007 season, 64 Louisville players have signed professional contracts after being selected in the Major League Baseball Draft, including a school record nine Cardinals in 2010. Twenty-one Louisville players have signed professional contracts after being chosen in the MLB Draft the last three seasons (2016, 2017 and 2018), including four first round selections and 11 players in the first four rounds.
Louisville will close its fall workouts with the annual Pizza Bowl series, which begins next week at Jim Patterson Stadium. The dates and times of the series will be announced soon.
UofL entered the fall with returning seven starters in the batting order as well as 10 pitchers from last year's squad, which finished with a 45-19 record after advancing to the championship round of an NCAA Regional for the seventh straight season. Louisville also registered its seventh straight 40-win season and the 11th in 12 seasons under head coach Dan McDonnell.
