Women’s Golf Wins Battle of Bluegrass State Title, Takes Third at Florida Challenge

The Cardinals edged the Wildcats by eight strokes for their third crown in the series.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Lauren Hartlage earned her third-consecutive top-10 finish this season, helping lead the University of Louisville women's golf team on Monday to the Battle of the Bluegrass State title in Lecanto, Fla.
The sophomore, Hartlage totaled a 1-over-par 145 at the Black Diamond Ranch Course, tying for sixth in the 57-member field. She opened the day with an even-par 72, totaling three birdies, and then clubbed a 1-over-par 73 in the second and final round. Hartlage tied for the best par-3 average in the field, with a 2.75.
Louisville and Kentucky used their 36-hole scores from the main event, the Florida Challenge, to determine the champion. The Cardinals won their third crown in four meetings, shooting a 12-over-par 588 for an eight-stroke victory.
Olivia Cason and Molly Skapik also earned top-10 finishes on the individual leaderboard, which led Louisville to a third-place showing in the Florida Challenge.
Cason took eighth after logging a 2-over-par 146, while Skapik tied for ninth behind a 3-over-par 147. Both marks are season bests.
Kristin Engle rounded out the scoring for the Cardinals, contributing a 6-over-par 150 to tie for 16th.
Linda Trockel paced the Cardinals' non-scoring team, with a season-best 6-over-par 150. It is a seven-stroke improvement from her previous best.
Louisville is idle for nearly a month before returning to action at the Moon Golf Invitational from Feb. 19-20 in Melbourne, Fla.
