Cards Host 2018 Spring Sports Media Day

Coaches and student-athletes from nine sports meet with the local media
The University of Louisville held its second annual Spring Sports Media Day on Jan. 24 at the Yum! Center Practice Facility. Coaches and student-athletes from men's and women's golf, lacrosse, rowing, softball, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's swimming and diving, men's and women's track and field were on hand to preview their seasons and upcoming events with the local media in attendance.

Men's Golf
After one of its most successful fall campaigns, the men's golf team opens its spring schedule on Feb. 26-27 at the Louisiana Classics. Led by junior Simon Zach and freshman Matthias Schmid, the Cardinals won a pair of tournaments – the Cardinal Intercollegiate and the Warrior Princeville Invitational – and also posted a pair of third-place finishes in the fall. Zach and Schmid are tops in stroke average at 69.39 and 69.83, respectively.

Women's Golf
Louisville women's golf, ranked No. 20 by Golfweek, opens the spring campaign on Jan. 29 in Lecanto, Fla., in a pair of events: the Florida Challenge, an eight-team event that features No. 22 Florida, No. 37 Miami, and No. 49 Kentucky; and, the Battle of the Bluegrass State, a dual match against Kentucky.

Lacrosse
The Cardinals begin a new era when they open the 2018 campaign under head coach Scott Teeter at Cincinnati on Feb. 9. Their home opener will take place on Feb. 11 against Marquette.

Rowing
Under the guidance of head coach Derek Copeland, who is in his sixth season leading the Cardinals, the Louisville rowing team will open its 2018 slate by hosting the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational on March 17-18 in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

Softball
The Cardinals will open the 2018 season Feb. 10-12 at the UCF Softball Invitational Feb. 9-12 in Orlando, Fla., where they will face Butler, UCF, North Carolina, North Florida and Illinois. In 2017, Louisville posted a 31-19 overall record and finished the season with a 14-8 mark in ACC play which placed the Cardinals second in the final ACC regular season standings.

Swimming and Diving
With the ACC Championships on the horizon, the No. 14/10 University of Louisville swimming and diving teams are gearing up for their final test of the dual meet season as they prepare to welcome the No. 3/7 Indiana to Ralph Wright Natatorium on Friday at 2 p.m. Â Friday's top-25 showdown will serve as Senior Day for Louisville. Prior to the start of the meet, the Cardinals will honor the team's seven seniors: Carlos Claverie, Todd Owen, Jonathan Zoucha, Paige Ezell, Rachel Grooms, Lauren James, and Hannah Magnuson.

Men's Tennis
UofL (3-0) opened the 2018 season last week with wins against Butler and Toledo in its home-opening doubleheader. The Cards followed with a road victory at Butler. The Cardinals are coming off a successful 2017 campaign which saw Louisville post a 22-10 overall record and earn its 12th NCAA tournament bid.

Women's Tennis
The 2-0 women's tennis team has a busy weekend ahead with a doubleheader on Friday and a single match on Sunday. The Cardinals face UTEP at 10 a.m. and then Northern Kentucky at 5 p.m. in the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. Coach Mark Beckham's squad has not lost a set yet this spring season. The Cardinals opened the spring slate with wins over Dayton and Wright State.

Track and Field
Most recently, the women's track team won the Notre Dame Invitational, while the men finished fourth. They will be back in action on Saturday at the Illini Classic. The Cardinals finished the 2016-17 season with four Indoor All-Americans, three Outdoor All-Americans and a National Champion in the steeplechase while seven student-athletes won ACC Individual Titles
