Bio
Sophomore: Todd Owen is a mainstay in the Cardinal Breaststroke Family. As a sophomore, he scored 15 points at the ACC Championships, finishing 7th in the B-final in the 100-breast with a 54.56, and made the C-final in the 200-breast with a time of 2:00.08. He was a reliable competitor in the breaststroke and relays during the dual season with a highlight being his performance at the UofL Invitational when he posted a 2:01.94 in the 200. In the Arena Pro Series in Indy, he was a finalist in the 200-meter breaststroke with a 2:24.28 and made the finals in that same event at Charlotte with a time of 2:25.94. He competed at the US Olympic Trials.
Freshman: In his freshman season, Todd scored valuable points at the ACC Championship with a 12th in the 100-breast (54.34) and a 7th in the A-final of the 200-breast, going 1:56.07. Todd picked up his first collegiate victory in the 200 breast with a time of 2:03.34 versus Cincinnati. He added depth for the Cardinals in the backstroke events against UNC with a fifth place finish in the 100 breast and a sixth place in the 200 breast. Owen also contributed to the relay events with his 200 free relay team posting the best time of 1:20.98 at the Louisville Invitational. Todd posted a B-cut time of 55.31 in the 100 breast at the Louisville Invitational. He swam in both backstroke events against Kentucky, posting a third place finish in the 200 breast and a fourth place finish in the 100 breast. Against Florida State, he was fourth in both the 100- and 200-breast with a 56.73 and a 2:03.74 respectively. At the USA Short Course Nationals, he finaled in the 100-breast with a 54.64 for 21st and was 11th in the 200-breast finals with a 1:57.72. At the USA National Championships, he was a part of the 10th place 4x100-meter medley relay, splitting 1:04.35.
Prep: Todd comes to the Cardinals from Ballard High School in Louisville where he was coached by Brad Hultz. Todd was named to the 2014 Junior Pan Pacific Championship team. At Ballard, he was a state champion as well as an All-American and 1st team All-State selection. Todd holds the 100-breast record with a time of 55.1 Todd also holds the club state record in the 100-breast and 200-breast while swimming for Cardinal Club, under current UofL assistant coach, Chris Lindauer. He won the 200-breast at the 2014 Speedo Junior National Championships. While swimming at Ballard, he also played football.
