Swimming Completes Third Day of TYR Pro Series

Sophie Cattermole placed third in the 400M free.
The University of Louisville men's and women's swimming teams completed the third day of competition at the TYR Pro Swim Series, highlighted by a third place finish from junior Sophie Cattermole in the 400M free finals.

Cattermole was one of two Cardinals who competed in the evening's finals session, where she recorded Louisville's best finish of the weekend with her third place finish in the 400M free (4:12.04). Marcelo Acosta also competed in the 'A' final, touching sixth with a 3:55.92.

The remaining Cardinals at the TYR Pro Series competed solely in the morning session of the meet. In the women's 50 M free prelims, Casey Fanz was the top finisher for Louisville, sprinting to 10th place in a time of 25.74. Also competing in the women's event were Arina Openysheva (26.18), Lainey Visscher (26.20), and Nastja Govejsek (26.64). On the men's side, Andrej Barna was fifth with a 22.89. Jarrett Jones and Nikkos Sofianidis finished with times of 24.28 and 24.58 respectively.

Three Cardinals finished in the top-16 in the prelims of the 50M back. On the women's side, Ashlyn Schoof took 16th in a time of 29.70. Alina Kendzior finished just outside the top-16, taking 19th with a 29.82. In the men's race, Sofianidis tied for 11th (26.46) and Nicolas Albiero tied for 13th (26.49).

The Cardinals' breaststroke duo of Morgan Friesen and Mariia Astashkina turned in solid swims in the 50M breast. Friesen put up a 33.40, while Astashkina finished just behind with a 33.58. Carlos Claverie turned in another top-eight finish in the prelims of the 50M breast, touching eighth with a 28.91.

In the prelims of the 50M fly, Govejsek stopped the clock in a time of 27.11 to grab seventh place, while Grace Oglesby touched the wall in a 27.61. On the men's side, the trio of Zach Harting (25.19), Albiero (25.20), and Sofianidis (25.43) all finished within less than half of a second of one another.

The final session of the TYR Pro Swim Series will feature the men's and women's 1500M free. The competition is slated to begin tomorrow at 8 a.m. CT.Â
