Cardinals Make a Splash on Day Two of TYR Pro Series

14 swimmers placed in the top-16 among the world's elite.
On the second day of competition at the TYR Pro Swim Series, the University of Louisville men's and women's swimming teams placed 14 swimmers among the top-16 in the meet's star-studded field.

Marcelo Acosta kicked off the evening for the Cardinals, placing fifth in the 800M free with a time of 8:01.14, while T.C. Smith took 11th (8:15.54). After swimming in the morning heats of the 800M free, Sophie Cattermole continued her successful weekend with a sixth place finish in a time of 8:47.51.

Swimming in the consolation final of the 100M back, Nikkos Sofianidis placed 13th (56.00), while fellow freshman Nicolas Albiero was just behind in 14th with a 56.14.

In the 200M fly, five Cardinals earned a spot in the evening's finals. On the women's side, Grace Oglesby turned in a 2:13.78 to finish 12th. In a quick turnaround, Albiero placed fifth in the 'A' final (2:00.10), followed by Zach Harting in sixth (2:01.21). Daniel Sos won the consolation final to take ninth in a 2:01.21, and Jarrett Jones touched the wall in 11th with a time of 2:03.38.

Competing in his second 'A' final of the weekend, Carlos Claverie put up an impressive fifth place finish in the 100M breast with a 1:01.87.

Arina Openysheva and Andrej Barna handled the sprint duties for the Cardinals in the 100M free. Openysheva took 14th in the women's event (56.27), while Barna finished seventh in a time of 50.80.

In the 200M IM, Rachael Bradford-Feldman touched the wall in a 2:14.92, finishing in fifth place. Completing her busy evening, Oglesby placed 16th in a time of 2:20.93. For the men, Sos was the top finisher for the Cards, placing fourth in a time of 2:02.43. Also swimming the in the 'A' final was Claverie, who touched eighth in a 2:05.38. The consolation final featured Etay Gurevich (2:04.59) and Jones (2:05.35), who finished in the 10th and 13th positions respectively.

The third day of the TYR Pro Swim Series will begin tomorrow at 9 a.m. CT with the prelims of the 400M free, 50M free, 50M back, 50M breast, and 50M fly.
