August 16, 2017 | Women's Lacrosse
The Cardinals return eight seniors in 2018.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Over the last four seasons, University of Louisville women's lacrosse has combined for a 49-26 record, while qualifying for the NCAA Tournament each year.
As they look to extend their NCAA Tournament streak to five in 2018, the Cardinals will use an experienced eight-member senior class to lead the way.
Louisville returns three players who started all 19 games a year ago in seniors Madison Hoover and Emily Howell and junior Casey Cummo. In addition, senior Taylor Webster returns after starting all 18 games she played and senior Jillian Balog is back after making 15 starts.
"This senior class has an incredibly strong presence on and off the field," said Young. "They have experienced leadership, unending passion for Louisville Lacrosse, and talent that will drive this team forward in 2018."
Howell, a defensive midfielder, finished the 2017 season with three goals and two assists, while recording 33 ground balls, which ranked fourth on the team. Webster had seven goals on just 16 shots, good for a .438 shot percentage, while picking up 21 ground balls.
Senior Julia Wood returns after missing all but seven games a year ago due to injury. As a sophomore, she scored 14 goals despite playing in just 10 games before being sidelined.
Young is also looking for contributions from junior Elise Koehl. The Arlington, Va., native played in 17 games last season, scoring 14 goals on 25 shots, good for a .560 shot percentage.
The Cardinals open the 2018 campaign in early February.
