Head Coach Kellie Young has added Louisville All-American Faye Brust to her staff
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Head coach Kellie Young has announced the addition of former Cardinal great Faye Brust to her staff. Brust comes to Louisville after spending last season at Furman University as an assistant coach.Â
Â
"I am thrilled to welcome Faye Brust back to the Louisville Lacrosse family as our offensive coordinator," said Young. "Faye was an integral part of many firsts during her time here at Louisville. She helped to secure our first undefeated conference run, while earning our first ever regular season conference championship. She was also part of our first conference tournament championship, earning our first automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and our first drive to the Sweet Sixteen. Now she is the first alumna to join our coaching staff. Faye is a devoted Cardinal who will bring both a passion for the University of Louisville and a passion for this great game we are blessed to coach each day."
Â
While at Furman last year, Brust served as the offensive coordinator while helping with all aspects of the program. She helped guide the Paladins to an overall record of 12-7 and a 7-3 conference record.Â
"I could not be more excited for the opportunity to coach at my alma mater," said Brust. "The passion and respect I have for the University of Louisville is a huge part of who I am, so being able to pour all my professional energies back into the Cardinals is a dream come true. I leapt at the chance to rejoin forces with Kellie and Vicki Latino and I look forward to working with a group of student-athletes who have the same goal in mind, a Louisville Lacrosse championship!"
Â
Prior to her stint at Furman, Brust owned and managed Cardinal Elite Lacrosse in Louisville. She personally trained female athletes ages 9-20. Prior to that, Brust coached with the Elite Lacrosse Club in her hometown of Bel Air, Md.
Â
Brust left her mark in the Cardinals' record book in her four seasons at Louisville. She and former teammate and All-American Nikki Boltja own the record for most goals by a tandem (142) and, prior to this season, owned the record for free position goals (20). She also ranks second in goals with 71 and third in points with 78. She ranked fifth in career goals with 143 and eighth in points with 161.Â
Â
Her career was cut short her senior year with an ACL tear during the North Carolina game. Her junior year was her most successful, earning third team All-American honors. She was also named the Big East Tournament's Most Outstanding Player after guiding the Cardinals to their first conference tournament title. She also earned first team All-Big East honors and IWLCA All-West Region honors. She finished her junior season tied for a team-best with 71 goals.Â
Â
"I am so excited to welcome Faye back to Louisville," said associate head coach Vicki Latino. "She has a passion for this program that is hard to match. I'm excited to see the flair she'll bring to the attacking end and to our program as a whole. Faye was so fun to coach and I can't wait to be on the sidelines with her wearing Louisville red again."
Â
Brust, a native of Bel Air, Md., graduated from Louisville in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in health and human performance. In 2016, she completed her master's in education at the University of Louisville.
