Head Coach Rex Ecarma checks in as the Cardinals enter the final month of the regular season
The University of Louisville men's tennis team entered the 2017 dual match season with a mix of experience and youth along with two junior college transfers. The Cardinals returned one senior and a junior along with four sophomores from a rebuilding year that saw Louisville post a 15-17 overall record and a 1-11 mark in ACC play. With the addition of three freshmen and two junior college transfers, head coach Rex Ecarma set out to guide his team back to the national stage.
After a successful fall season, the 2016-17 Cardinals have compiled a 17-4 overall record and a 4-2 mark against conference opponents. Louisville has appeared in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) team rankings in each of the last six weeks, reaching as high as No. 31.
Senior Sean Donohue and freshman Parker Wynn got off to hot start in the dual match season, posting an 18-1 record and reaching as high as No. 22 in the doubles rankings through the first two months of play. The duo is currently ranked No. 50 and carries a 19-4 overall record. Finally, sophomore Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff recently made his debut in the ITA singles rankings, appearing at No. 114. Louisville's No. 1 player has compiled a 20-10 overall record is one of four Cardinals who have already tallied 20 or more wins on the season along with junior Nicolas Rouanet (22-12) and sophomore Brandon Lancaster (26-9). Parker Wynn leads the team in wins with a 33-9 overall singles mark and currently stands fifth on the school's list for single season wins. The freshman has also compiled a 17-3 mark in dual matches while splitting time between Nos. 2 and 3.
The Cardinals are entering the homestretch of the 2017, with seven regular season matches left, a slate which includes No. 17 Georgia Tech, No 1 Wake Forest and No. 11 North Carolina, along with a road match at Clemson. Coach Ecarma has prepared his team to meet to the challenges ahead and in the quest to return to the NCAA tournament for the 12th time in program history.
