Lacrosse Faces Virginia in the First Round of the ACC Championship

Sixth seeded Cardinals face the third seeded Cavaliers
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The No. 18 Louisville lacrosse team will face No. 12 Virginia in the first round of the ACC Tournament on Thursday night. The Cardinals (11-6, 3-4 ACC) drew the No. 6 seed and will face the third seeded Cavaliers (10-7, 4-3 ACC) at 8:00 p.m. on the ACC Network Extra at Sports Backers Stadium in Richmond, Virginia.

Louisville secured the six-seed after upsetting seventh-ranked Syracuse 9-8 on Saturday at UofL Lacrosse Stadium, giving the Cardinals their first win over the Orange. The Cavaliers took the three-seed in the tournament after finishing the season on a three-game winning streak, including wins versus Louisville and Virginia Tech.

For the season, senior Hannah Koloski leads the way for the Cardinals with 60 points on the season, scoring 58 goals and two assists. Koloski also leads the nation in free position goals per game with 1.53, is second in shots on goal per game with 6.00 and fourth in shots per game at 7.94 and goals scored at 58. Sophomore Meghan Siverson has 59 points on the season from 51 goals and eight assists. Siverson is fifth in shots on goal per game with 5.82, ninth in shots per game at 7.59, 11th in free position goals per game at 1.06, and 17th in goals scored with 51. Junior goal keeper Brittany Read ranks fourth in the nation with 10.06 saves per game, sixth in save percentage stopping 51.7 percent of the shots she faces, seventh in saves with 171, and 21st in the nation with a 9.43 goals-against average. Junior Madison Hoover leads the Cardinals with 18 assists, while Freshman Ashley Lynch has 17 assists on the year. Senior Stephanie McNamara leads the team on defense with 37 ground balls and a team-high 26 caused turnovers.

Maggie Jackson leads the Cavaliers with 59 points from a balanced attack of 33 goals and 26 assists, while also having a team-high 52 ground balls, 31 caused turnovers, and 60 draw controls. Besser Dyson is second on the team with 49 points from 20 goals and 29 assists. Goal keeper Rachel Vander Kolk has a 10.89 goals-against average, a .431 save percentage, 8.12 saves per game, and has 138 saves on the year.

Virginia leads the all-time series 3-0 against Louisville. The Cardinals fell to the Cavaliers 11-7 on April 15 in Charlottesville, Va. Sophomore McKayla Conti scored two goals and Read stopped 15 shots in the loss. This will be the first time the two teams have met in the ACC Championship.
