
Lacrosse Opens 2017 Season Against Vermont

18th-ranked lacrosse faces Vermont on Saturday at 1 p.m. at UofL Lacrosse Stadium
LOUISVILLE, KY. – The University of Louisville 18th-ranked women's lacrosse team will open the 2017 season against Vermont on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the UofL Lacrosse Stadium.

Louisville returns seven starters from the 2016 team that finished with a No. 15 ranking by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association. Last season the Cardinals once again played one of their toughest schedules in program history, finishing with a 12-6 overall record and held a 3-4 clip in conference play. Â Louisville secured its third consecutive berth to the NCAA Tournament, where it fell to No. 12 Northwestern in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Cardinals return their top scorer from last season in Hannah Koloski (43g, 2a), who was named to the 2016 All-West/Midwest Region team. Louisville also returns goalkeeper Brittany Read who had a save percentage of .515 and allowed only 7.09 goals a game. As a team, Louisville averaged 10.72 goals per game, while only allowing 8.33 goals against.

The Catamounts finished last season with an overall record of 6-10 in 2016, and welcome back 25 letterwinners, which includes nine starters from 2016. They return their leading scorer in senior Alex Bernier (20g, 26a). As a team, Vermont averaged 10.75 goals per game, while allowing 12.00 goals against.
