Cardinal women finish fourth while the men finish tied for fifth
NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Louisville women's track and field team finished fourth while the men finished tied for fifth at the 2017 ACC Indoor Championships on Saturday. Emmonnie Henderson was named the Women's ACC Indoor Field MVP and Damar Robinson was named the Men's ACC Indoor Field MVP for the second straight year.
"We continued to see great performances from both squads today," said head coach Dale Cowper. "Emmonnie Henderson and Damar Robinson led the way with outstanding performances in the shot put and triple jump. I am really pleased with the way our teams competed over the last three days. We saw tremendous growth throughout the indoor season and we'll look to continue progressing through the National Championships in two weeks."
The women's fourth place finish is the best ACC Indoor finish since joining the conference in 2014. The men's fifth place finish is also the best for the Louisville men as well.
Henderson started to day off with a win in the women's shot put. She won the event with a throw of 16.95m/55-07.50. The win is her second straight ACC indoor shot put title. She has also won the outdoor shot put title two straight years as well. Henderson earned field MVP honors after the shot put win and a runner-up finish in the weight throw.
Robinson finished second in the triple jump with a personal best mark of 15.99m/52-05.50. Robinson earned indoor men's field MVP honors for the second consecutive year. He won the high jump on Friday to repeat as ACC Indoor Champion. He also won the high jump title last year at the ACC Outdoor Championships as well.
The Cardinals will have a week to prepare for the NCAA Indoor Championships. The championship will be held in College Station, Texas on March 10-11.
