Melanie McHenry and Wilma Rivera Named AVCA All-East Region

Pair helped lead UofL to ACC Crown
University of Louisville outside hitter Melanie McHenry and setter Wilma Rivera were named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association's (AVCA)Â Â All-East Region First Team.Â
Wilma Rivera was the ACC Setter of the Year and first team All-ACC.  The Carolina, Puerto Rico, native and a member of the Puerto Rico National Team, Rivera recorded 1,215 assists on the year, which ranked third in the league, and averaged 10.66 assists per set. Her jump serve has landed a team-high 36 times for an ace and she is second on the team in digs with 332. She also had 50 blocks for the Cardinals.Â
McHenry was a first team All-ACC selection and led the Cardinals in kills with 408, adding 22 aces, 244 digs and 69 blocks. She was a two-time ACC Player of the Week, and earned All-UNLV Tournament and All-Cardinal Classic this year. She had 11 matches with 15+ kills and was the first UofL player to get 30 Kills in match since '11. She has been held to single digit kills only six times this year and had a season-high seven blocks against Western Kentucky.Â
