Volleyball Adds Six New Cardinals

Dani Busboom Kelly signs her first-ever Cardinal class
The University of Louisville volleyball team will add six players to its roster on signing day today, Claire Chausee, Aiko Jones, Emily Scott, Anaya Martin, Maggie Mullen and Mia will join the Cardinals next season according to Dani Busboom Kelly, UofL head coach.

"I am very excited to add the class of 2018 to the Louisville volleyball family." Said Busboom Kelly. " We are adding depth and competition at each position and expect them to make an immediate impact in our program. Not only are these six players talented athletically, but they are great students and people. We have student-athletes from all over the world in this class and are thrilled they chose to continue their academic and athletic careers as Louisville Cardinals."

Claire Chausee, a 5-11 outside hitter from Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her career at UofL. She plays club at Capital Volleyball Academy 18 adidas, where she is coached by Mark Rushton. She plays high school ball at Sun Prairie High School for Coach T.J. Rantala. At Sun Prairie, she was a four-time first team all-conference performer and was named the 2016 and 2017 Big 8 Player of the Year. She earned honorable mention All-State honors as a freshman and third team All-State as a sophomore before earning First Team All-State kudos as both a junior and senior. She reached 1,000 career kills in 2016 and in 2017, reached the all-time kill mark in Sun Prairie School history. She helped lead her squad to the Regional Championships four consecutive years and to a Sectional Championship in 2016.

Aiko Jones, a 6-1 right side hitter from Kingston, Jamaica, signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her career as a Cardinal. At the age of 17, she is a member of the Jamaica National Senior Team. She played as a starting setter/right side in the Caribbean Volleyball Championships in July of 2017 in Jamaica. She played as a starting right side hitter and setter in the third round of the World Championships Qualifier this month in the Dominican Republic. Her high school is the Wolmer's School, where she is coached by O'Neil Ebanks. Wolmer's has won 22 national titles in the last 27 years and she has served as captain for the last three. She was the National MVP in 2014, 2015, 2017 and was named the National Best Server in 2017. Strong at the net, she was Jamaica's National Best Attacker in 2015 and 2016 and the National Best Blocker in 2014 and 2015. She earned the 2016 Rising Star Award for the University of the West Indies Mona Volleyball Club with Coach O'Neil Ebanks and Ricardo Chong.

Emily Scott, a 6-2 middle blocker from Appleton, Wisconsin signed a National Letter of Intent for the Cardinals. She plays for Kimberly High School for Jeff Nieuwenhuis and plays club ball for the Wisconsin Volleyball Academy for B.J. Bryant. At Kimberly, she was team captain for her team that qualified for State after winning regional and sectional championships. She earned first team all-conference honors and was named to the All-State honorable mention list.

Anaya Martin, a 5-7 setter from Tyrone, Ga., will be joining the Cardinal roster. She played high school ball for Woodward Academy and Coach Tad Sahara and club ball with Tsunami Volleyball and Coach Joe Goodson. In club, she was named the KPVA Elites MVP in 2015. At Woodward, she was the First Team All-Region in 2016 and 2017. She helped Woodward to the 2016 4A State Runnerup slot and was a member of the Positive Athlete Georgia in 2017. A 2017 Senior All-Star, she was named to the First Team All-State team and helped Woodward to a State 4A Semi-Finalist run.

Maggie Mullen, a 5-3 libero/defensive specialist from Omaha, Neb., will be joining the Cardinals. Mullen played for Marian High School and Coach Amy McLeay and club ball for Nebraska Elite and Coach Tony Carrow. Nebraska Elite qualified for 17 Open USA Nationals and were fourth at the Philadelphia Qualifier. She was named to the 2016 Mizuno SPVB National Junior Classic All-Tournament team. In high school, her school was a State Class A Semi-finalist last year and she is ranked the top libero by Nebraska PrepDigs survey of club and high school coaches and ranked 11th overall of all volleyball players in the state.

Mia Stander, a 5-3 defensive specialist from Atlanta, Ga. also will be joining the Cardinals. Stander played for Marist High School for Coach Karen Arndt and club ball for A5 under Coach John Haroun. Her A5 Club team won the 2016 National Championship and she was named to the National All-Tournament Team. They were also 2016 AAU National Champions and the AAU 2017 National RunnersUp in 2017. As a senior at Marist, she helped her team to a State Championship as the varsity team captain. She has earned All-State honors as a junior and honorable mention All-State as a senior. She was also all-area as both a junior and senior.Â
