Battle of the Bluegrass Date Set

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The annual Battle of the Bluegrass for the University of Louisville and rival Kentucky volleyball teams is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 20  the schools announced Friday afternoon. The two teams will clash inside Historic Memorial Coliseum in Lexington at 3 p.m. ET and will be televised on a station within the ESPN Family of Networks to be announced later.
The "Battle of the Bluegrass" is one established by longtime  in-state rivals and has grown to become one of the most competitive matchups in college volleyball in recent years with both the Cardinals and the Wildcats competing annually for spots in the Final Four. The Cardinals ended the 2025 season with a five-set loss to eventual national champion Texas A&M in Omaha. The Cardinals had a winning streak over the Cats that dated back to 2019 until UK upset No. 3 Louisville in a five-set match inside the KFC Yum! Center last fall that sparked the Wildcats' run to the NCAA Final Four. Last month, the Cardinals beat UK 3-1 in a spring match in Lexington.Â
