No. 3 Louisville Heads to Western Kentucky for In-State Matchup

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 3-ranked University of Louisville volleyball team is set to face in-state opponent Western Kentucky on Wednesday, Sept. 16 in Bowling Green, Ky. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and will be streamed on ESPN+.
The Cards aim to stay hot after earning four wins last week, extending their win streak to eight matches. UofL secured victories against Missouri, Rice, No. 15 Creighton, and UNI. The contest against the Bluejays marked Louisville's fifth top-20 win of the season.

TEAM NOTES
- UofL shined at the KFC Yum! Center against Missouri on Sept. 9, coming away with the four-set victory (25-21, 22-25, 25-15, 25-17). The Cardinals' offense stole the show, tallying a season-high 72 kills while posting a .315 hitting percentage, their fifth-straight match hitting over .300. Defensively, UofL recorded a season-high 86 digs, with five different Cardinals eclipsing the 10-dig mark.
- Louisville secured a perfect weekend at the Rice Invitational in Houston, winning all three of its matches. The Cards opened the slate with a four-set win against Rice (25-14, 25-17, 24-26, 25-12) on Sept. 11. UofL hit .304 for the match with 57 kills and held Rice to 40 kills on just .107 hitting.
- On Sept. 12, Louisville earned its fifth ranked win of the season, beating No. 15 Creighton in four sets (25-22, 27-25, 23-25, 25-16). Offensively, the Cards tallied 64 kills on a .256 clip, while totaling 69 digs and 10 blocks on the defensive side.
- The Cardinals closed the Rice Invitational on Sept. 13 with a sweep against UNI (25-11, 25-17, 25-23). Louisville excelled on the defensive side of the ball, holding the Panthers to only 37 kills on just a .161 hitting percentage, while also tying a season-high with 10 total blocks. UofL also posted 46 kills on a .377 hitting percentage.
- Louisville moved up to No. 3 in the AVCA/Taraflex Coaches Poll, improving two spots from its Week Two ranking of No. 5.
- Setter Nayelis Cabello was named ACC Setter of the Week for the second straight week. The junior averaged 12.08 assists and 3.58 digs per set in victories against No.15 Creighton, Missouri and Rice. She started the week against Missouri with a season-high 59 assists while adding 13 digs, four kills and three blocks. Against Rice, she dished out 34 assists and added six kills, two aces, two blocks and tied her career high with 18 digs. She closed her week with 52 assists, 12 digs, two kills, two blocks and an ace against No. 15 Creighton. Cabello ranks 11th nationally and second in the ACC with 11.05 assists per set.
- Opposite Kalyssa Blackshear continued her dominant season against Missouri, tying her career high with 20 kills on a .425 hitting percentage. The sophomore also claimed Rice Invitational MVP honors, amassing 41 kills across all three matches. Blackshear shined against No. 15 Creighton, where she hit .486 with 18 kills and no errors while adding three blocks defensively.
- Outside hitter Chloe Chicoine excelled on both ends of the court last week, earning a double-double in three of the four matches. Against Missouri, the senior posted a season-high 22 kills on a .377 clip while adding 12 digs. Chicoine was also named to the Rice Invitational All-Tournament Team, where she produced stellar performances across all three contests. Facing No. 15 Creighton, Chicoine recorded 21 kills and a season-high 13 digs.
- Libero Payton Petersen powered the Cardinals' defense, starting her week with a career-high 28 digs against Missouri. The junior stayed hot into the weekend, earning Rice Invitational All-Tournament Team honors. Petersen totaled 47 digs across all three contests, while dishing out a career-best eight assists against Rice.
- Outside hitter Chloe Meester added to her sophomore campaign after being named AVCA National Player of the Week on Sept. 8, tying her career-high with 14 kills against Missouri. She also notched 11 kills with three aces and a career-high four blocks against Rice.
