Volleyball Rolls 3-0 Over Wake Forest

Outside hitter Amanda Green had 12 kills, seven digs and an ace to lead the University of Louisville to a 25-16, 25-15, 25-19 sweep at Wake Forest in ACC Volleyball action Friday afternoon in Winston-Salem, N.C.

The Cardinals move to 17-6 overall and an 11-2 mark in the league. UofL's Tess Clark added 11 kills and a block and freshman Natalie Palastro added two aces. The Cards hit .320 as a team and recorded five blocks and four aces. Wilma Rivera had a double-double with 33 assists and 13 digs. Maggie DeJong led the team with four blocks.

In the first set, the Cards hit a blistering .567 with 19 kills and just two errors on 30 attacks. Louisville pieced together a 8-1 run to go up 14-8 early in the set and sparked a Wake timeout. UofL added a 6-1 run to go up 22-12 and then held off a late Wake Forest charge to win 25-16 with Jasmine Bennett's kill cementing the win for the Cards.

In the second set. Wake took an early lead at 5-4 but an 8-1 run put the Cards up 17-9. Up 22-14, freshman Natalie Palastro came off the bench to ace the Deacons and two straight kills by Amanda Green gave the Cards the 25-15 win. UofL hit .267 in the set to Wake's .000.

In the third set, Wake Forest went up 4-1 right after the break. The Cardinals tied at six on a kill by Maggie DeJong and then took the lead on another DeJong kill. WFU battled back to tie at 11 on kill by Kylie Long and then retook the lead on a Cardinal hitting error at 12-11. The Deacons managed another lead at 14-13 on another kill from Long but never led again as the Cards rolled to the 25-19 win on a match point on a WFU service error.

The Cardinals head to Duke to take on the sixth place Blue Devils at 1 p.m. on Sunday in Durham, N.C. The win puts UofL atop the ACC standings but Pitt and NC State, which were tied for first with the Cards going into the weekend, both play later this evening.
