LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville rowing program will host the 11th annual Red & Black Regatta on Saturday at 10:30 a.m., ET at the G. Garvin Brown III Rowing Center at Waterfront Park on River Road. The Red & Black Regatta is the only home event of the 2017-18 season for the Cardinals.
The event is scheduled to include five intra-squad scrimmage races followed by a cookout with the rowers, coaches, families and alumni. This is a fun event where UofL fans and supporters as well as the parents and families of the rowers can watch the team compete in the city of Louisville. Boats and ergs will be on display along the river and it will be a great way for people to learn more about the sport of rowing. It's also a wonderful way for the fans to meet the student-athletes and get to know some of the great women that are on the team.
The Red & Black Regatta will begin with a welcome from head coach Derek Copeland at 10:30 a.m., and will be followed by introductions of the Cardinals rowers and coaching staff and recognition of Louisville's success from the previous season. The boats are scheduled to launch at 10:50 a.m., and will be followed by the racing, which should be completed by approximately noon. The cookout is set to follow the racing.
The team will be hosting a silent auction this year with items created by members of the team and local vendors. Items include a baked good basket, Louisville rowing oil paintings, signed football by Cardinals head coach Bobby Petrino and signed baseball by UofL head coach Dan McDonnell. The raffle drawing this year will also include gift certificates to some of the outstanding local restaurants.
The Cardinal Pride Pep Band and Cardinal Bird mascot will also be in attendance. Louisville rowing gear will also be on sale throughout the day. Click here for directions to the G. Garvin Brown III Rowing Center.
